With increasing population in the world there is a concern about how to accommodate people in the urban area of cities without compromising the environment and the population quality of life. Currently there is an incentive for the development of densely populated urban areas. These areas if they have characteristics that promote conservation / creation of greens, connectivity and a better use of natural resources can help in the production of a good city. But for this, it is necessary to understand how urban density relates to the environment. The objective of this study was to understand how urban density may be related to urban vegetation, since these two variables are important for the production of a sustainable city. For this, a map of the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) was generated for Leme, a city in São Paulo State In this study, rapid eye data was processed and analyzed with IBGE Brazilian Census data. The census area unit were evaluated considering the urban population. It is concluded that density and urban vegetation have a negative trend, but this negative correlation was not confirmed. Further studies are needed to understand what other components influence the relationship between these two variables.
